Testimonials

I want to express my greatest thanks for the excellent roofing, siding replacement, ADA hand rail, and concrete work you performed. Kaiser Permanente and PG&E were very pleased with your work. The planning and execution of the job was very evident and the workmanship cannot be matched. I have and will continue to recommend Airtight Construction.

SAN MATEO CA – USEFUL INFORMATION

San Mateo, CA was visited in 1827 by Capt. Frederick W. Beechey and he was awed by the bucolic vista of gentle hills dotted by cattle, horses and deer.  Part of the Mission of San Francisco, the area was first settled by the Spanish looking for farmland to feed the settlement. The fertile soil and mild Mediterranean climate made the future San Mateo perfect for their purpose.

During the 1850’s, wealthier San Franciscans were also drawn by the mild climate to build summer homes.  They built impressive mansions, some of which survive to this day.

The founder of the Bank of Italy (which later became the Bank of America), A. P. Gianinni lived here most of his life.  The mansion that he built, Seven Oaks, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

In the early 20th century, Japanese immigrants arrived who were attracted to both the flower industry and the local salt ponds.  Their influence is felt today in San Mateo Central Park where you will find an ice-skating rink and a beautiful Japanese Garden.

San Mateo today is a wealthy and thriving city complete with many activities for residents and tourists alike including Curi Odyssey, a science and wildlife center for kids, Coyote Point recreation area with its large playground, picnic areas and walking trails, and Coyote Point Drive Park for a marina and fishing.
