ROSEVILLE CA- USEFUL INFORMATION
Roseville, CA is the largest city located in Placer County and served as a stage coach station originally named Griders. In 1864 during the civil war, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived and the name was changed officially to Roseville.
Incorporated as a city in 1909, the Southern Pacific Railroad moved its facilities here and heralded a period of major growth. Agriculture was the major industry here, and the largest ice manufacturing plant in the world was built here in 1913 at the Pacific Fruit Express building. Having the means to keep produce fresh and convenient to the railroad literally put Roseville on the map.
The city remained an important railroad town, and WWII saw this importance increase. The post war period saw a rapid increase in both population and building.
The tech rise in Silicon Valley brought several major employers to the area, including Hewlett Packard and NEC. There was a major revitalization begun in 1988 to redo the historic downtown and bring new life to the area. Beautification efforts included the Atlantic Street and Vernon Street projects, as well as a new art gallery opening in 2008 followed by a new Civic Center in 2013.
